2024 Conference Highlights

     This year’s conference was incredibly exciting! In the last month, I have heard from so many friends and colleagues that when they left the conference they were energized and full of new knowledge and skills that they wanted to immediately implement for the benefit of their students, schools and communities!

     Some of the highlights included over 180 sessions on so many timely subjects, outstanding keynotes from Dan Meers, AKA KC Wolf; professional mascot for the Kansas City Chiefs, Andy Milne, SHAPE America National Health Teacher of the Year, and our very own Charlie Rizzuto, also a SHAPE America National Health Teacher of the Year.  We laughed, we cried, and we were inspired by these amazing speakers!

     Another highlight was the fun we had at the Centennial Showdown as each zone hosted a game where the number 100 was key!  The laughter and the smiles were abundant and the competition was fierce but friendly!

      We continued the celebration of the 100th Anniversary of our association by recognizing and sharing our rich history and traditions at the Dr. Ron Feingold Lecture Series as our 100th Anniversary Committee (Colleen Corsi, Tam Ray and Sandy Morley) shared their work which compiled 100 years of the history of NYS AHPERD.       

     We celebrated our future professionals, and other amazing people from zones and sections at the Amazing People Awards Ceremony, and our teachers of the year and other prestigious award winners were recognized at our Jay B. Nash dinner.  The celebration was complete with an exciting fireworks display on Friday night thanks to our many sponsors!

     The conference is always a highlight of my year and this year it was extra special as I completed my year as president.  I would like to thank our Executive Director, Jessica Synenki, our Conference Manager, Jenny Vittiglio, our wonderful Central Office staff, the Presidential Team, BOD and Executive Council, for their hard work and efforts to make this year’s conference so successful!

 

Survey Responses

We are always striving to GROW and improve our conference and appreciate those of you that completed our Conference Survey.

Our registration team continues to make your transition to attending the conference a breeze. We will continue to make this an easy process and encourage everyone to use the EZ Pass as it continues to work efficiently.

Our programming will be a major area that we will continue to work through. We offer many sessions at the same time which causes you to feel like you missed out. We will continue to ask our presenters to submit handouts through our APP so that you have access to those sessions that you were not able to attend. Our Section Presidents will be mindful of scheduling and will continue to offer you the best sessions.

Our boutique had been relocated due to construction at the Turning Stone. Many of you have suggested more sizes, baseball hats and backpacks. We will do our due diligence to meet your requests. Thank you for visiting our boutique and proudly representing our organization.

The Awards Ceremonies will be another area that we focus on streamlining. We find that honoring our members and shining light on their amazing accomplishments is truly inspiring. We also want to be sure that we are mindful of the length of these ceremonies. The Executive Board and the Board of Directors are looking at ways to make this happen.

And our conference APP suggestions were to continue to make improvements so that it is our best version of being user friendly.
