The Outdoor Adventures State Teacher of the Year Award

This award honors a Physical Education teacher who has made a lasting impact through outdoor education — whether it’s camping, archery, hiking, fishing, or other adventure-based activities.

All applications are due September 15th.

All nominations are due August 15th.

Awards Criteria

  • Must have taught outdoor education as a part of the Physical Education Curriculum or as an elective course for at least 2 years.
  • Must offer an inclusive program for all students.
  • Must show student impact and potential or past program growth.
  • Must have a program that encourages extra-curricular programs such as archery, hiking, camping, fishing, shooting sports, field trips, etc.
    Must have a program supported by their administration.
  • Membership in NYS AHPERD for a minimum of five years with at least three years within the last five years and must be a
  • member of the Recreation/Adventure Education Section.
  • Must have a minimum of ten years of teaching and job responsibilities in the past three years must include teaching in the discipline for which you have been nominated.
