Lifetime Service Award
The most prestigious honor bestowed by the Association upon one of our members. It is awarded based upon meritorious service to our profession through NYS AHPERD.
Distinguished Service Award
A prestigious honor bestowed by the Association is awarded based upon extensive and meritorious service to the Association and our profession.
Professional of the Year Award
Given to an outstanding administrator or teacher who is recognized as an extraordinary leader and who has contributed exceptional service to the Association and our profession.
Director of the Year
Given to an outstanding director who has contributed to the improvement of physical education programs in servicing the youth of his/her own school district.
Award of Distinction for a School Leader
Given to an administrator, coordinator, or educator who has demonstrated a commitment to fostering a comprehensive K-12 program in health, physical education, recreation, or dance.
Teacher of the Year Award
Honors individuals for excellence in teaching and overall performance in the disciplines of physical education, adapted physical education, health education, and dance education.
Excellence in Higher Education Award
Given to an exemplary higher education faculty member who teaches health education, physical education, exercise science, recreation and/or dance programs and who has made outstanding contributions to their college/university.
Bernard E. Hughes Award
The Association recognizes persons and organizations outside the professions of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance who have made outstanding contributions to New York State AHPERD or the professions of Health, Physical Education, Recreation or Dance.
Joy of Effort Award
The Joy of Effort Award is given in recognition of those individuals who through word, action and deed, reveal that the effort made to educationally enhance the lives of their
students.
Amazing People Awards
Honors individuals for excellence in teaching and overall performance in the disciplines of physical education, adapted physical education, health education, and dance education.
Jay B. Nash Outstanding Major Award
Given to two undergraduate students for outstanding performance relevant to their preparation for the profession.
Graduate Awards
Given to two graduate students for outstanding performance relevant to their preparation for the profession.

The Jay B. Nash Awards Dinner is a highlight of our Annual Conference where outstanding student and professional members from across NY state are honored. Many of our award recipients go on to apply for district and national awards and several have received these distinguished honors!
